Housing Report: New York City Has Approved 6,732 New Residential Units This Year Through August

In August 2026, the City Planning Commission approved 1,975 residential units and certified six new projects, while the City Council approved 250 units and two projects with modifications, resulting in a loss of eight units, including two affordable ones. Through August, 6,732 units were approved via ULURP in 2026. Currently, 10,955 units are in the ULURP process. Several rezoning projects for mixed-use buildings with hundreds of units were approved or certified, with others pending votes.
